IN MEMORIAM
This website is dedicated to the memory of Paul and Loretta Pogorzelski. For many years, they single-handedly maintained the only WASCA website that we had, using the resources that they had available and loads of heart.
Paul and Loretta were active, not only in the entire square dance community (clubs, square dance organizations—VASARDA and WASCA), but the entire community in which they lived. Paul was the Commissioner for Senior Citizens Falls Church and President of TRIAD for Senior Citizens. He received awards for promoting NBC4, Health and Fitness Expo Program. In fact, Paul credited the last few years of his life to the free tests he took one year at the NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo. They notified him that he needed to see his personal doctor because the tests showed that he had cancer. Paul worked at his job right up until the time he was diagnosed with cancer. Although he retired from his job, that didn’t slow him down any in living his life; he just kept going. He was still just as active with his family, his community, and his promotion of square dancing.
Paul and Loretta always actively promoted square dancing and clogging. You saw them out everywhere dancing and having fun—they even went to three National Square Dance Conventions. Paul and Loretta organized and participated in demonstrations, “first nighters” and parades. Their favorite parade was the Falls Church Memorial Day Parade where Paul always ensured that the square dancers had an entry and marched/danced in the parade. WASCA won many trophies for the first-class float/dance/presentations by the square dancers.
For the past 10 years, until their deaths in 2006, Paul and Loretta served in an outstanding way in their roles as Membership and Information Services Directors. Their lives were centered on “living” right up to the last minute of their lives and for this we will always be grateful. We are so indebted to them for all their contributions. Their commitments to their fellow dancers and fellow man are representative of what we in WASCA and in life aspire to. May they rest in peace…
