Getting Around on the Website
Main Menu
Pages and sub-pages--if you look at the left-hand side of your screen you will see that each of the main areas on the site, with names such as "WASCA Member Clubs" are all the way to the left margin. If you click on that "page" you will see all of the sub-pages that belong to that "page". There will usually be sub-pages under each of the main pages . Sub-pages will be indented from the pages by about 4 spaces.
All of the pages and sub-pages in the menu are links. You can move around the entire website by clicking on one of the page listings that you see in the Main Menu and continuing "down" through sub-pages by clicking each menu entry.
Site Map
A site map of a website is a listing of every page that exists on the website laid out in outline form. This way you can see the structure for the entire website and see where we have put various topics. Each of the page or sub-page listings on the Site Map outline is a "link" (see below). Click on the name of the page or sub-page in the Site Map, and you will be taken to that page or sub-page. Click WASCA Website Site Map to see what it looks like.
Links
A "link" is a word or phrase has been connected to something else so that you can jump to that something else just by clicking on the link. What you jump to can be another page on the website, a document that is sitting on the website, an e-mail address, or even another website altogether. A "link" is also sometimes referred to as a "hot link" or a "live link" or an "active link". All of these are basically the same thing.
You can tell that a word or phrase is "linked". Links are a different color from all of the other words on the page (unless that other word is also a link). If you put your mouse cursor on the word or phrase and it is linked, it will change color. If you then click the left button on your mouse, it will take you to that other page, document, or website. Example: Click Interesting Links to jump to that page.
Search Button
One of the most powerful tools to find something on the website is the search button. The search button is on every page on the web site. If you look to the upper right-hand corner of the screen, you will see a blank box with a grey button to the right of the box that says "Search". If you put a word or phrase in the box and click on the "Search" button, the website will be searched for that word or phrase on every page on the website. The results will be shown at the bottom of the screen. If you get too many pages, make your search term more specific. For instance, "square dance" occurs on 30 pages, but "square dance lessons" only occurs on 9 pages.
How do I get back to where I came from?
In general, if you find yourself on a page that you did or didn't mean to go to you can get back to where you came from. The key term here is "Back". If you look in the upper left corner of your screen, you will see an arrow that says "Back" on it. The arrow is usually bright green. Put your cursor on that arrow and click your left mouse button. It should take you back one page.
