Square Dance Lesson Details

Square dance lessons taught under the sponsorship of a club (or other sponsor) vary considerably in approaches.  The following shows the different ways in which they are structured.  Entry level lessons are referred to variously as 'beginner", "beginner's", "beginning", "basic", or other desciptive term.  All of these terms refer to the same thing--getting started.

Entry level to Mainstream (also referred to as "MS")--

Gets you to the 1st square dance level so that you can dance at this level at clubs, festivals or anywhere else that dances Mainstream (MS).

Entry level to Plus--

Gets you to the 2nd square dance level so that you can dance at this level at clubs, festivals or anywhere else that dances Plus.

Mainstream to Plus--

Offered by some clubs for those who have already completed Mainstream lessons or have danced Plus before and simply need a refresher.

Dancing By Definition (DBD)--

Not a formal square dance level but a program based upon dancing a square dance movement from any position.  You will learn what it is like for your partner to dance from their position and for everyone to learn the actual calls from different starting and ending positions.

Plus to Advanced or Advanced to Challenge

If you are dancing at this level, you probably don't need any explanations.
