Round Dance Lessons

LIke square dancing, round dancing can be enjoyed at the beginning level, but as dancers begin to become comfortable in the beginning levels many look for opportunities to learn more complex movements.  In the round dance world, these different levels are called “phases” and those phases are defined in Roman numerals. That is, round dance progresses from Phase I through II, III, IV, V, and VI. And, if that isn’t enough there are even more intricate dances that are not phased at all!

The opportunities for learning round dance are not as robust as those for square dance.  In general, round dance lessons are available through several of the WASCA area cuers and taught in conjunction with a round dance club.  Click on Round Dance Lessons Schedule for a table of currently available annual or ongoing round dance classes.

Round Dance Phases--details

The folks who define the “phases” of round dance are an organization called Roundalab.  They work with another world-wide organization called the Universal Round Dance Council (URDC)
to ensure that these conventions are followed in a manner similar to the role of Callerlab in the square dance world. If you desire real depth of information the phases and how they are defined, click Round Dance Phase Rating System.  (This information is copied from the website maintained by Harold and Meridith Sears and re-formatted somewhat).  Click Roundalab for additional information on the organization and round dance resources.
